82C206 - C64 From: John/Lori Reply to: [1]henk@diespammerdiedoitnow.com Date: Sun, 22 Nov 1998 13:34:24 -0700 Organization: Posted via Supernews, http://www.supernews.com - Discussions start here! I've been considering how to add some "functionality" to my C64's (strictly DIY, I'm not interested in getting an REU, but, rather, building something like an REU) The 82C206 is an "integrated peripherals controller" which includes (among other things) the equivalent of two 8237 DMA controllers and a 74LS612 memory mapper. I see junk ones all the time, and I know they're still available surplus. I wonder if this has ever been done, or if any of you "hardware hacker" types have ever considered it or have any thoughts on the matter. I'm particularly curious about what would be involved in making an 82C206 based, REU type device work with existing REU software. I know there's general info on the REU's but is there any detailed info on how (for example) GEOS accesses the REU. Or maybe source code for an REU RAM disk that works with stuff like GEOS. (I don't necessarily care about GEOS specifically, I'm just using it as a compatiblility benchmark/standard) Comments? References 1. mailto:henk@diespammerdiedoitnow.com
