Should make the detection of single sided disks a lot faster. >Or did you mean CTRL-A, which would be ASCII 1? A-ha! Well, screw M-W then. :-) It was "a", not ^A. It looks like a CHGUTL command (a good description of it is on the bottom of p.95 in the 1581 user's guide [English]). However, it only says that retries may be set there, i.e. "u0>r"+chr$(retries). There's also a mention that fast serial can be toggled on and off with u0>b0, u0>b1 but neither of my 1571s understand this, so it must be a 1581-ism. >>On a somewhat related note, what was the command to flip drive heads? >>I thought >>it was u0>h1 but the v3.0 and v3.1 drives both complain with error 31. >You can only select heads when you're in single sided (i.e. u0>m0) mode. >In native mode, this gives an error as you already know ;-) You would think that if it starts up in 1541 mode, it automatically goes to single sided mode, but it doesn't. I had to send the u0>m0 outright to get it to work. By the way, I have just discovered that trying to access a single-sided disk with the head flipped over causes interesting and possibly damaging activity to the drive (grrrRRRRRRR KLACK KLACK KLACK t-t-TICK bzzz ... [power switch]). -- Cameron Kaiser * cdkaiser.cris@com * powered by eight bits * operating on faith -- supporting the Commodore 64/128: http://computerworkshops.home.ml.org/ -- head moderator comp.binaries.cbm * cbm special forces unit $ea31 (tincsf) personal page http://calvin.ptloma.edu/~spectre/ * "when in doubt, take a pawn" _________________________________________________________________ Email a Friend Sponsored by: Audio Book Club [USEMAP] previous · post reply · next help FreeShop!
