I fear that this is also not true. In floppy disk drives, the head must be in direct contact with the disk surface, they won't work otherwise. AFAIK, the new Sony HiFD 200MB and the LS120 Superdisks also have heads in contact with the surface, and only the Zip drives use flying heads. This means there is always some danger of a head crash if dirt comes into the drive. This happens sometimes and is well known as the 'click of death', because it kills your drive, the disc that is in it and all discs you subsequently put into the dead drive, and it makes the clicking noise during the procedure. And don't forget that Commodore used the half-speed technology in the Amiga series of computers and almost in the 1591 high-density 3,5" drive. Since the Amiga FD controller is only able to work at a fixed data rate, Commodore decided to use special disk drives that spin HD disks at half speed, i.e. 150rpm. Data rate stays the same and the Amiga can happily use HD disks, but only in these very special drives.
