I discussed shorting out the write-protect phototransistor to enable writing to unnotched disks. And I said that, when changing disks, either an INITIALIZE or a RESET command should be sent to the drive. That is because the drive would no longer be able to detect change-of-disk. Then, in the final paragraph of the article, I mentioned clipping pin 12 of UF5 (present only in the original long board). And I said that that would eliminate having to do the INITIALIZE or RESET. I was wrong; I apologize. I didn't give that idea enough thought. I later realized that the hardware protection against writing to an unnotched disk would be disabled, but that you would still get a WRITE PROTECT ON error message. So only the first method (shorting out the write-protect sensor) should be used. But remember to do either an INITIALIZE or a RESET when switching disks. -- John
