GEOWORKS OPERATING SYSTEM AT THE HEART OF HP OMNIGO 100 HANDHELD ORGANIZER

Flexible, Compact, Open GEOS Platform Results in Small, Affordable, Easy-to-Use Device with Range of Complementary Applications

ALAMEDA, Calif. (October 16, 1995) -- Marking the successful completion of significant joint development efforts, Geoworks (Nasdaq/National Market System Symbol: GWRX) today announced that its graphical GEOS operating system platform is the foundation for Hewlett-Packard Company's OmniGo 100 handheld organizer. The GEOS operating system offers a patented, flexible user interface, compact design and open architecture. This enabled HP to design a handheld organizer that offers the most extensive functionality in its product category for under $350 (U.S.) and supports a range of complementary applications.

"The introduction of the HP OmniGo 100 handheld organizer is a major milestone for Geoworks," said Gordon Mayer, president and CEO of Geoworks. "By working closely with HP to develop the product, we have been able to realize our shared vision of small, affordable, full function mobile devices that provide consumers with tremendous value."

The flexibility of the HP OmniGo 100 handheld organizer, that accepts both pen and keyboard input in either horizontal or vertical display modes, was enabled by the GEOS operating system's flexible user interface that supports multiple user interface designs. The GEOS graphical user interface also provides a consistent look and feel between applications so that users have an easy time navigating between applications and transferring data.

"The GEOS operating system uniquely enabled us to customize the user interface and differentiate the HP OmniGo 100 handheld organizer from any other product in the category. In addition, its efficient, compact design and open architecture let us get to the price point we required," said Kheng Joo Khaw, general manager of HP's Asia Pacific PC Division. "As a result, we are introducing an exciting new product that significantly raises the bar in the handheld organizer category."

In conjunction with the introduction of the HP OmniGo 100 handheld organizer, HP and Geoworks have worked together to deliver two complementary software applications: HP OmniGo 100 Clip & Go and HP OmniGo 100 Strategy Games. In addition, the GEOS open architecture has enabled independent software vendors to provide additional complementary applications that let users personalize their HP OmniGo 100 organizer and expand functionality as they require.
